A little about me. I'm a videographer based out of Northern Michigan, with a passion for the beautiful moments in nature, the city and tiny moments in every day life. Take a peek into my portfolio for snippets of my career as a videojournalist for five years with Northern Michigan's news leader, 9&10 News. It features news feature segments, hard news, day to day stories and drone footage. I also do weddings to capture some the love stories that grace Northern Michigan.

About

I like to capture, not create special moments.

A little about me. My official full-time job title is news photojournalist. Sometimes I think that title is misleading. I work with a seventeen pound camera and twenty pound tripod every day, traveling around the ten northernmost counties the station I work for broadcasts to. I've traveled more than 100,000 miles in the three years I have been with this station. I record video, interview and put stories together. We tell so many different stories. Sometimes it's difficult to even dress for my job. We never know what is going to happen until I walk in the door. We could be on a muddy riverside or in a courtroom in one day. True story.

I've crawled in leaky Prohibition-era tunnels and gone to the top of the Mackinac Bridge twice. All with a camera in hand to tell a story. I'm used to capturing fluid moments, while remaining removed from impacting the story.

I'm from Harbor Springs originally and went to the University of Michigan where I got two degrees, that I don't do much with at the moment. I have a Bachelor's in Environmental Science and a Bachelor's in English as well as a minor in Art and Design. You could say I was just trying to cover all of my bases in fear of not being able to find a job. Following love, I moved from place to place after graduation and took jobs that may not have fit in with my degree. I worked as a Print Producer for an advertising agency downtown Detroit with a fun view of Comerica Park right from my desk.

But I just wasn't happy in Detroit. Having spent four years in Ann Arbor for school, I was craving Northern Michigan. My roots. The fresh air, the colors, a horizon not filled with buildings but with trees. To be able to pull out my kayak after work one day if I wanted to. I took a chance on a job that fulfilled my original passion: Photography.

My first camera was a tiny point and shoot and I still have it to this day. When I was a teenager, I told my father I wanted to go to art school. Who knows what he thought, but he said he would buy me a camera. When I was seventeen he passed and I bought that camera. It was a DSLR Nikon D80 with a Tamron "all around" 18-200mm lens. It took me to new places just so I could get that shot. I lived alone pretty much until graduation. I grew with that camera. Photos became my cathartic outlet, a way to capture the world in as much beauty and rawness as I wanted.

I'm so excited to be in the wedding videography field. I just love to capture raw, beautiful moments that people cherish forever. I can't tell you just how full it makes my heart. Nothing makes me feel better than someone cherishing a moment I captured for them candidly. In a way, shooting these happy moments is almost a selfish process for me as it makes me feel so good! Seriously. I love to just be a witness to things and share a perspective of occasions that some people may not see or get a chance to see. Sometimes with my news position we see moments that aren't so happy for people and I can't wait to have more and more opportunities for an outlet of love, passion and hope.

Cheers,  :)

Erin
